Pressure Tank Brands Compared

Nearly every residential pressure tank you'll find comes from one of a handful of manufacturers. Here's how the major brands stack up against each other.

Amtrol Well-X-Trol

The name contractors reach for by default. Amtrol pioneered the modern diaphragm/bladder pressure tank design decades ago and the Well-X-Trol line remains the most widely installed brand in the U.S. Heavy-gauge steel shell, a separate replaceable bladder in most models, and typically a 5-year warranty. The tradeoff is price — Well-X-Trol tanks usually cost more than comparable-sized competitors.

Flotec

Flotec (a Pentair brand) sits in the middle of the market — solid build quality at a noticeably lower price point than Amtrol, with warranties that are typically shorter (often 1-3 years depending on the model). A common choice when budget matters but you still want a recognized, widely-serviced brand.

WaterWorker

WaterWorker tanks are generally the budget option of the three, popular in big-box retail stores and cost-sensitive installations. Adequate for many residential applications, but warranty coverage and drawdown-per-dollar tend to trail both Amtrol and Flotec.

The sizing decision matters more than the brand. A correctly sized budget tank will outperform an undersized premium tank every time. Use our pressure tank size chart to confirm you're comparing the right tank size across brands before deciding on brand alone.

Is a More Expensive Tank Always Better?

Not necessarily. Price differences between brands often reflect warranty length and bladder replaceability rather than a strict quality tier — all three brands are widely used and generally reliable when sized correctly and installed with proper air pre-charge.
